The Dawn of a New Era

From Concept to Competition: Meet the Audi R26 Today marks a historic milestone as Audi officially reveals the R26, the first-ever factory Formula 1 car from the four rings. Launching in Berlin, the R26 features a striking titanium silver, carbon black, and Audi red livery. This isn't just a new car; it’s a statement of German engineering entering the world’s most elite racing stage.

Power Behind the Rings

Pushing the Limits of Efficiency – The Heart of the R26

The 2026 Formula 1 season isn't just a new chapter for Audi; it’s a revolutionary leap for automotive engineering. As a full factory "works" entrant, Audi has developed its entire Power Unit from the ground up at the Audi Competence Centre Motorsport in Neuburg, Germany—marking the return of high-performance engine development to German soil.

The Power Unit: A 50/50 Evolution

The R26 is built to meet the FIA’s most ambitious sustainability goals yet. The drivetrain consists of a highly efficient 1.6L V6 Turbocharged engine paired with a massive increase in electrical capability. While previous F1 cars relied on electricity for about 20% of their power, the R26 shifts the balance to a 50/50 split, delivering roughly 350kW (475hp) of electric boost to complement the internal combustion engine.

Key Innovation: The Elimination of the MGU-H

In a bold move toward road-relevant technology, the 2026 regulations have removed the MGU-H (Heat Energy Recovery System). To compensate, Audi has tripled the kinetic energy recovery through an upgraded MGU-K, which harvests energy under braking at an unprecedented rate.

2026 Audi F1 Team Driver Lineup

A Perfect Balance of Experience and Explosive Potential

Audi enters the 2026 grid with a strategic "Bridge to the Future" driver pairing. By combining one of the most technically astute veterans in the sport with the most exciting prospect from the South American racing scene, the Audi Revolut F1 Team has built a lineup capable of developing a car and winning races.

Nico Hülkenberg: The Technical Anchor (#27)

With over 250 Grands Prix under his belt, Nico Hülkenberg is the fourth-most experienced driver on the grid. Known in the paddock as "The Hulk," his reputation is built on incredible qualifying pace and a deep understanding of vehicle dynamics.

  • The Development Edge: Having spent the 2025 season with the transition team, Nico provides the vital continuity Audi needs to calibrate the new R26 chassis.
  • Hybrid Mastery: Nico is one of the few drivers with top-tier endurance racing experience, having won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Porsche’s hybrid program. This expertise in energy management is a massive advantage as F1 shifts to its high-electric 2026 power units.
  • The Milestone: Fresh off a career-defining podium at the British Grand Prix last season, Nico is in the best form of his career.
Gabriel Bortoleto: The Rising Star (#5)

Representing the "New Wave" of Formula 1, Gabriel Bortoleto is Audi’s long-term investment in championship glory. The 21-year-old Brazilian has had a meteoric rise, making him one of the most talked-about names in the sport.

  • A Champion’s Pedigree: Bortoleto made history by winning the Formula 3 and Formula 2 championships in consecutive years—a feat achieved only by the likes of Charles Leclerc and George Russell.
  • Proven Performance: After a breakout rookie season in 2025 where he secured multiple points finishes (including a P6 in Hungary), Gabriel has proven he has the composure to race against the world’s best.
  • The Future of Audi: Gabriel represents the precision and "relentless curiosity" that Team Principal Jonathan Wheatley cited as the core of Audi’s racing DNA.

Mission 2030 – The Road to the Championship

Challenger. Competitor. Champion.

Audi isn't entering Formula 1 to simply "make up the numbers." Under the strategic leadership of Mattia Binotto (COO and CTO) and Team Principal Jonathan Wheatley, the team has launched "Mission 2030"—a rigorous, five-year roadmap designed to take Audi from a debutant to a World Championship contender.

A Three-Phase Ascent

Audi’s path to the top is divided into three distinct operational phases:

  • Phase 1: The Challenger (2026–2027) The first two seasons are defined as "Day Zero." The focus is on establishing seamless reliability between the Neuburg-built Power Unit and the Hinwil-built chassis. Success in this phase is measured by consistent point finishes and mastering the operational complexities of the new 2026 regulations.
  • Phase 2: The Competitor (2028–2029) By year three, Audi intends to shift from the midfield to the front of the pack. This phase is about consolidation—refining aerodynamics, optimizing the 50/50 hybrid power delivery, and becoming a regular fixture on the podium.
  • Phase 3: The Champion (2030 and Beyond) The ultimate milestone. By 2030, Audi aims to be the benchmark of the paddock. The goal is to leverage five years of data and development to fight for both the Constructors' and Drivers' World Championships.
The Power of Unified Infrastructure

Unlike many teams that purchase engines or parts from third parties, Audi is a full factory works team. This means every component of the R26 is designed to work in perfect harmony across three global hubs:

  • Neuburg, Germany: Where the "Heart of the Rings" (the Power Unit) is born.
  • Hinwil, Switzerland: The state-of-the-art facility responsible for chassis engineering and wind-tunnel testing.
  • Bicester, UK: The newly established Technology Office in "Motorsport Valley," allowing Audi to tap into the world’s deepest pool of F1 talent.

"We are building this team from the ground up, but we are building it with the DNA of a winner. Our 2030 goal is ambitious, but for Audi, it is the only goal that matters."Mattia Binotto

Bring the Spirit of F1 to Kingston

Performance Lives Here

While the Audi R26 belongs on the international circuits of the F1 calendar, the "Vorsprung durch Technik" philosophy is alive and well right here in Eastern Ontario. At Audi Kingston, we believe that racing technology shouldn't be confined to the track—it should be felt every time you get behind the wheel.

From the Paddock to Gardiners Road

The same engineering team responsible for the R26’s energy recovery systems has also perfected the lineup you see in our showroom today. When you drive an Audi, you are experiencing a direct technology transfer from the highest level of motorsport.

  • The Power of e-tron: The 2026 RS e-tron GT is our most powerful production model ever, delivering up to 912 horsepower and a 0–100 km/h time of just 2.5 seconds. This blistering performance uses the same 800-volt architecture and thermal management logic developed for high-stakes racing.

  • Precision of the RS Series: Whether it's the RS 6 Avant or the RS Q8, every RS model features the same focus on aerodynamics, cooling, and "e-quattro" all-wheel drive stability that our drivers, Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto, rely on at 300 km/h.

  • Intelligent Efficiency: The sustainable fuel and kinetic energy recovery research used in F1 is currently being integrated into our newest plug-in hybrids and fully electric SUVs, ensuring your daily commute is as efficient as it is exhilarating.
Your Local F1 Connection

Audi Kingston is more than a dealership; we are your local hub for the Audi F1 journey. As the 2026 season approaches, we invite you to join us for exclusive launch events, race-day previews, and a first-hand look at the vehicles that carry the F1 DNA.

Experience the grid for yourself. Visit us at 520 Gardiners Rd to test drive any of our performance models and feel the future of Audi today.
